Martin Luther King Day Schedule 2007

March starts at OHS 9:00 a.m. All are welcome.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday is Monday, January 15, 2007.  The Owensboro Human Relations Commission will join groups across the country in honoring the birthday of a man who gave his life for the cause of Civil Rights in our country.  This year is special because our congress has commissioned a national monument project honoring this great American.

The OHRC board asks you to join us in celebrating this national holiday with a commemorative march and program at Kentucky Wesleyan College. The 9:00a.m. march will start at Owensboro High School and end at Kentucky Wesleyan College.  The program will take place in the Winchester Center on the KWC campus, which will include a speaker and music.

The featured speaker will be Dr. John A. Hardin, professor of history at Western Kentucky University.  Our theme is “Keeping the Dream Alive,” and Dr. Hardin will speak to the state of civil rights in our country since the death of Dr.King.

It is our deepest request that you and members of your church or youth service organization will join us in a morning of celebration on this auspicious occasion.

The marchers will assemble in the south parking lot of Owensboro High School at 8:30a.m. (march commencing at 9:00a.m.) and the KWC program will start at 10:00a.m. The morning program will conclude at 12:00p.m. with free lunch of bean soup and cornbread for the marchers. We sincerely hope that you will join us in this gesture and making the cause of civil rights and human relations a reality in Owensboro.

Please call  687-8671 for more information or to confirm your participation.  Thank you for your time and support.
