Big buses, minibuses, taxis and motorcycles (boda-boda) form the transportation network.

Here is a taxi getting loaded with 8 passengers for a trip from Hoima to Masindi

Ride a "taxi" minibus around the main roads in Kampala. At the minibus stops there will be a rank of boda-boda motorcycle taxis waiting to take you up the back road to your destination. Main roads are blacktop, if sometimes potholed. Back roads are dirt, often badly gullied.

Travel to the district capitals can be in a taxi (matatu), usually more comfortable and marginally less crowded than a city taxi. There are also large buses such as Kalita to Fort Portal and Hoima Bus to Hoima. All vehicles totally ignore the speed limit, risking collision passing and head-on. Sit in the back of the vehicle and look out a side window until close to your destination. Main roads from Kampala to district capitals are increasingly high speed blacktop. Roads between district capitals are still dirt, graded after each rainy season. No matter where, there is a constant procession of pedestrians, bicyclists, and boda-boda riders going in both directions.
